Introduction: Migraine is a prevalent condition that can affect 18% of the population. Propofol and magnesium sulfate can exert a therapeutic potential in pain management in patients with acute migraine attacks. Methods: A semi-systematic review to investigate the efficacy of these two drugs was conducted. For the search strategy, PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched. Finally, all randomized clinical trials were included. Results: Eight studies met the criteria for inclusion in our review. Four investigated propofol, and four examined magnesium sulfate. No study compared these two drugs with each other. Conclusion: Propofol demonstrated promising efficacy for pain control. Findings regarding magnesium sulfate were inconsistent. Overall, both agents appeared safe for administration in this patient population.
